Know Your Charging Options
Â
When you own a plug-in hybrid, you should know some
basics like your charging options, and what type of care your vehicle will need
especially with the battery. First up, is knowing your charging options.
- Level 1 chargers can be used for plug-in
hybrids with a standard household outlet, and give you 2 to 5 miles of range
per hour, good for long-term overnight or all-day charging
- Level 2 chargers can charge up to 10-20 miles of
range per hour, and have to be installed professionally by an electrician.
These are good for plug-in hybrids, but most used by EV owners
- Level 3 fast chargers are usually found in public
areas, and provide 60-80 miles in 20 minutes. With a plug-in they can be quick
options when you're on the go and want a full electric
reserve
Another thing to know is battery life. Hybrid
batteries generally last 100,000 to 200,000 miles as electric motors, and you
have warranty coverage on this as well, meaning you can ride with confidence in
your plug-in hybrid.
